What is d Value Pass? A membership that makes ChargeSpot free, however often you rent
This article contains promotional content (PR). Links to d Value Pass go through the docomo affiliate program, and this site earns a referral fee if you sign up via those links. Prices, perks and campaigns were checked on the official docomo and CHARGESPOT pages on October 7, 2026.
d Value Pass (dバリューパス) is a membership service from docomo that costs ¥550 a month (tax included). It used to be called "Sugotoku Contents" (スゴ得コンテンツ) and was relaunched in its current form in March 2026. The biggest change: you can now sign up without a docomo line. If you're on au, SoftBank, Rakuten Mobile or a budget SIM, all you need is a d ACCOUNT.
- Monthly fee: ¥550 (tax included)
- First time: free for up to 31 days from sign-up (first-time subscribers only)
- Payment without a docomo line: credit card only (VISA / Mastercard / JCB / AMEX)
- docomo line users: you also need sp-mode, or the internet connection service for ahamo, irumo or docomo mini
The perks fall into roughly eight groups:
- Unlimited ChargeSpot rentals (covered in the most detail in this article)
- Discount coupons for movies, dining and leisure
- Daily Chance (デイリーチャンス, a daily lottery)
- d Barai Point Bonus (d払いポイントボーナス)
- Amazon d Point Bonus Day (Amazon dポイントボーナスday)
- TOWER RECORDS ONLINE coupons
- Unlimited use of about 150 content services and apps
- Perks for docomo services and travel
Of these, ChargeSpot is the one with the clearest cash value. CHARGESPOT (チャージスポット) is the mobile battery rental you see at stations and convenience stores: when your phone is running low, you rent one through the app and return it somewhere else. Normally even under 30 minutes costs ¥165, but with d Value Pass that fee drops to ¥0, no matter how many times or how long.
It's simple to use: copy the "license code" handed out every month on the d Value Pass member page and paste it into the CHARGESPOT app. Then just scan a stand's QR code as usual to rent. Below is the official price table, with regular prices on the left and subscriber prices on the right.
How many rentals a month to make the ¥550 worth it
"Free" still comes with a monthly fee, so whether it pays off depends on how often you rent. First, here's the regular price per rental next to a line marking the ¥550 monthly fee.
A single rental only beats the monthly fee if you keep the battery for 6 hours or more. But most people rent more than once, and once you add up the rentals, the break-even point is surprisingly low.
- 1–3 hours, twice a month (¥860 regular): the 2nd rental puts you over the fee
- 30 min–1 hour, twice a month (¥660 regular): the 2nd rental puts you over the fee
- Under 30 min, 4 times a month (¥660 regular): the 4th rental puts you over the fee
- 6+ hours, once a month (¥570 and up regular): one rental puts you over the fee
A good rule of thumb: two days a month when you rent for 30 minutes or more. If you do a lot of field work, business trips or travel, you'll clear that most months. On the other hand, if you rent once a month and return it within an hour, the regular price is ¥330, and ChargeSpot alone won't cover the fee.
Even in months when you hardly use ChargeSpot, other perks can make up the difference. The movie coupons, for example, take up to ¥500 off per ticket. If you see one movie a month, that alone gets back most of the fee.
Compared with pay-per-use and CHARGESPOT Pass
ChargeSpot also has its own official flat-rate plan, "CHARGESPOT Pass". It charges ¥390 per rental in a tiered system, capped at ¥2,340 from the 6th rental in a month, and each rental can last up to just under 48 hours. We picked four common rental patterns and lined up the monthly cost under each of the three payment options (bars show the monthly total).
2 hours, once a monthPass is cheapest
2 hours, twice a monthd Value Pass is cheapest
Under 30 min, 3 times a monthPay-per-use is cheapest
2 hours, 4 times a monthd Value Pass is cheapest
Side by side, it's clear that if you rent for 30+ minutes on two days a month, d Value Pass is the cheapest (for 30 min–1 hour twice a month, pay-per-use is ¥660 and Pass is ¥780). If you rent once a month, Pass wins; if you only make short rentals under 30 minutes up to 3 times a month, pay-per-use is fine.
Note that you can't use CHARGESPOT Pass and d Value Pass's unlimited rentals at the same time. If you're on Pass, the license code works from the 1st of the month after your Pass cancellation is completed. If you're switching, cancel Pass by the end of the month so there's no gap.

Where to rent and where to return
There are 54,847 battery stands nationwide (as of June 2025). Among convenience stores, FamilyMart passed 10,000 locations with stands in July 2026, and you'll also find them at stations, shopping centers and restaurants. Each battery comes with three built-in cables, USB-C, iPhone (Lightning) and micro USB, so you don't need to carry your own.
You don't have to return it where you rented it. Renting at a station and returning at a convenience store near home, or grabbing one near home before you head out, costs nothing extra. You can find stands with open slots on the app's map.
Before signing up, it's worth checking the map to see how many stands are around where you live and along your commute. If there are hardly any nearby, you won't end up renting much anyway.
All the perks besides ChargeSpot
Besides ChargeSpot, d Value Pass comes with coupons and point perks you can use every day. According to docomo, there are about 900 coupons and about 150 content services and apps you can use without limits. Let's go through them one by one with the official images.
Discount coupons for movies, dining and leisure
Movies are the easiest perk to put a number on. The coupon list on the official portal offers movie e-tickets at "up to ¥500 off anytime." For example, TOHO CINEMAS goes from ¥2,000–2,200 (adult) to ¥1,700, AEON CINEMA from ¥2,000 to ¥1,500, and Cinema Sunshine from ¥2,000 to ¥1,400 (as shown on Oct 7, 2026). If you see one movie a month, that alone nearly pays for the subscription.
You can also buy discounted e-tickets such as Skylark (すかいらーく) web vouchers (e.g. ¥1,000 → ¥950), Baskin-Robbins 31 (サーティワン), Demae-can (出前館), Sunshine 60 Observatory and Tokyo Joypolis. Some coupons work by showing your phone screen in store, and the official page lists logos like JINS, Matsuya, Ueshima Coffee, Steak Gusto and Fuji-Q Highland.
Daily Chance: a lottery you can play every day
A lottery you can enter once a day. In the "Present" (プレゼント) draw, coupons such as FamilyMart ¥100 shopping vouchers are won instantly by a total of 150,000 people every week (the number of winners varies by week). Every Friday there's also a "W Lottery" (W抽選) where 100,000 people win premium prizes. In the "d POINT" draw, you win from 1 pt up to 1,500 pt in d POINTs (limited-time/limited-use).
d Barai Point Bonus: up to 100% back on in-store payments
Once you've entered, every time you pay ¥200 (tax included) or more with d Barai at participating stores such as convenience stores, you get a no-lose lottery draw and up to 100% back in d POINTs (limited-time/limited-use). There are 50,000 100%-back wins each month. The maximum per payment is 700 pt, and some stores and payment methods are excluded.
Amazon d Point Bonus Day: up to 5x on orders shipped on the 5th and 6th
Link your d ACCOUNT and Amazon account, and you get 1% in d POINTs on Amazon orders of ¥5,000 (tax included) or more. d Value Pass subscribers get +2x, for 3x, on orders shipped on the 5th and 6th of each month. If you also subscribe to Amazon Prime through docomo, you get another +2x, for 5x. The bonus points are capped at 400 pt per order and 600 pt per month (limited-time/limited-use).
TOWER RECORDS ONLINE: ¥220 off, equal to shipping
On TOWER RECORDS ONLINE, you get a reusable coupon for ¥220 off (equal to the shipping fee) on purchases of ¥1,000 (tax included) or more. It can't be combined with other discounts or Tower Records points, and it doesn't apply to in-store pickup orders. In October 2026, there was also a coupon for ¥500 off purchases of ¥4,000 or more.
Unlimited use of about 150 content services: weather, transit, games and more
It includes staple tools like Weathernews and NAVITIME (transit, bus and Drive Supporter). The ALKOO walking app, Pro no Kantan E-Recipe (プロの簡単E・レシピ), characters like Hello Kitty, plus games and stickers are all free to use in their d Value Pass versions. Some, like ALKOO and Weathernews, also earn you d POINTs as you use them.
Perks for docomo services and travel
On d shopping, entering each month gets you +1x points plus coupons worth ¥600 in total. The e-book service d Book has an 80% off coupon (discount up to ¥800), and the photo service d Photo has an exclusive "up to 2 months effectively free" offer. The travel booking site Airtrip (エアトリ) also offers discount coupons of up to ¥40,000 (all from the coupon list as of Oct 7, 2026). There are also member pages for theme parks such as Sanrio Puroland and Moomin Valley Park.
Note that some content and services aren't available on iPhone and iPad. If there's something specific you want to use, check its official page for compatibility before signing up.

From sign-up to your first rental, step by step with screenshots
It takes about 10 minutes, all on your phone. From the second month on, you just repeat steps ③ and ④ (getting and entering the code) once a month.
① Enter on the campaign page, then sign up
To get d POINTs as a new subscriber, press "Entry" (エントリー) on the campaign page before you sign up. After entering, you go straight to the sign-up screen (bonus conditions are in the section below).
② Log in with your d ACCOUNT and sign up
If you don't have a d ACCOUNT, you can create one for free on the spot. Without a docomo line, register a credit card (VISA / Mastercard / JCB / AMEX) as your payment method.
③ Get this month's license code
On the "CHARGESPOT for d Value Pass" page of the d Value Pass site, press "Get this month's code" (今月のコードを取得). You can copy the code shown with "Copy license code" (ライセンスコードをコピーする).
④ Enter the code in the CHARGESPOT app and rent
The rest happens in the app, following steps 1–4 in the official images below. Update the app to the latest version, then on My Page go to "I have a license code" (ライセンスコードをお持ちの方) → "Use license code" (ライセンスコードを使用する) → paste the code and tap "Confirm" (確定). If the map screen shows the member perks "Unlimited at a flat rate" (定額料金で使い放題), "No usage fee limit" (利用料金無制限) and "Unlimited rentals" (利用回数無制限), you're registered. Then just scan a stand's QR code and a battery pops out.

The monthly routine, and tips so you don't miss out
Re-enter the code when the month changes
A license code is valid until the end of the month it was issued. It resets every month, so when a new month starts, get a new code and enter it in the app. Adding "1st of every month: ChargeSpot code" to your phone's calendar saves you from scrambling right before you need a battery.
Enter before getting the code to earn 5 pt every month
If you enter on the same page first, you get 5 d POINTs (limited-time/limited-use) for each month you get a code. If you do it the other way around, you won't get that month's points. Make a habit of doing it in this order at the start of each month: "check you've entered → get the code."
Only one battery at a time
A CHARGESPOT account can normally rent up to 3 batteries at once, but with the license code you can only rent 1. You can't rent another until you return it. Renting for your whole family at once or giving the code to someone else isn't allowed.
Things to check before you sign up
No pro-rating if you don't have a docomo line
Without a docomo line, once the 31-day free period ends you're charged for the whole month. When you cancel, you also pay for the full month regardless of the cancellation date. Depending on when you sign up, the number of days you actually get in your first paid month can vary a lot.
If you sign up on Oct 1
The free period ends within October, and paying for November gets you all of November
If you sign up on Oct 25
The free period lasts until Nov 24. Even after paying ¥550 for November, you only get 6 paid days, from the 25th
In short, if you don't have a docomo line, sign up at the start of a month so none of the free period goes to waste.
Some locations aren't covered
Unlimited use doesn't apply at places with their own special pricing, such as theme parks, stadiums, universities and medical facilities. The official examples are LEGOLAND Japan, Tokyo Dome, Yokohama Stadium, Universal Studios Japan and Rakuten Mobile Park Miyagi. Spots outside Japan aren't covered either; only rentals within Japan are free.
Not returning it means it's treated as lost
Even at ¥0, the rental stays active until you return the battery. You can't rent another one, and to end the rental you have to contact customer support. In that case it's treated as lost, and you'll be charged a compensation fee (¥4,080 on CHARGESPOT's pricing page).
Can't be combined with other coupons or Pass
It can't be used together with CHARGESPOT coupons or campaigns, or with CHARGESPOT Pass.
The free trial is for first-timers only
The 31-day free period is for first-time subscribers. If you've subscribed to d Value Pass (formerly Sugotoku Contents) before, you may not get the free period. Check that the free period is shown on the sign-up screen before you continue.
d POINT bonus for new subscribers (Oct 1, 2026 – Jan 4, 2027 period)
docomo is currently running the "d Value Pass Up to 2 Months Effectively Free Campaign" (dバリューパス最大2か月実質無料キャンペーン). On top of the 31-day free period, new subscribers get 550 pt in d POINTs (limited-time/limited-use). That's one month's fee back in points, hence the name "up to 2 months effectively free."
Here are the conditions:
- Enter via the campaign page and sign up during the campaign period (sign-ups on other sites or in stores don't count)
- Stay subscribed for at least 32 consecutive days
- Be a d POINT CLUB member (docomo Business Members are not eligible)
- Without a docomo line, have a contact phone number registered to your d ACCOUNT
- Once per person, including past rounds of the same campaign
Points are scheduled to be awarded around early March 2027 and are valid for 90 days including the day they're awarded. docomo has announced that the campaign will continue after this period in separate rounds: Jan 5 – Feb 28, 2027 and Mar 1 – 31, 2027.

FAQ
Can I sign up without a docomo line?
Yes. All you need is a d ACCOUNT. Payment is by credit card only (VISA / Mastercard / JCB / AMEX).
Is it still ¥0 if I rent for more than 24 hours?
Yes, it's ¥0. But you can't rent another battery until you return it, and if you end the rental without returning it, it's treated as lost and you'll be charged a compensation fee.
Do I have to re-enter the license code every month?
Yes. A code is valid until the end of the month it was issued and resets every month. When a new month starts, get a new code and enter it in the app again.
